About Family Minded Psychology
Family Minded Psychology, founded by Zara and Liam, is a family-centered therapy service dedicated to supporting parents, carers, and children navigating mental health challenges, neurodivergence, and chronic health conditions. As parents themselves — of two children, one a teen and the other with neurodevelopmental needs — Zara and Liam know firsthand the complexities and unique challenges of family life.
Our Journey and Values:
Zara, a qualified psychotherapist, recognised the critical gap in support for parents and caregivers. With her personal experience of raising a child with additional needs, Zara and Liam saw the urgent need for proactive family support, where caregivers are empowered, not just treated.

Through their clinical experience and personal family journey, Zara and Liam founded Family Minded Psychology and developed the Navigation Framework.
Our Mission:
At Family Minded Psychology, we are passionate about transforming family well-being through evidence-based therapy, coaching, and practical resources. Our services are designed to meet the diverse needs of families, promoting mental health support, building resilience, and creating family-friendly environments that foster growth for everyone.
What we Offer:
We provide therapy, coaching, Empowerment Hours, and resources designed to help families recognize body signals, regulate emotions, and navigate the complexities of family life. Through our services, we support:

-
Parents and Caregivers: Empowering them to navigate caregiving challenges with confidence, resilience, and well-being.

-
Children and Teens: Helping them build emotional literacy, develop self-regulation skills, and thrive despite challenges.

Additionally, we offer consultancy and training services for professionals and organisations that work with families. We help create inclusive environments that support family resilience and ensure better outcomes for those with chronic illness, neurodivergence, and disabilities.
The Navigation Framework

Our Navigation Framework is at the heart of everything we do. It offers a shared metaphorical system to help families, children, and professionals navigate caregiving, disability, and neurodivergence. Rooted in radical compassion and narrative practice, this framework honors the emotional labour families experience while fostering a resilient and family-focused environment.
Using nautical metaphors such as The Boat, The Compass, The Lighthouse, and The Safe Harbour, we guide families to:
-
Identify their core values and strengths through the Compass.
-
Understand emotional fluctuations through The Weather.
-
Find support and direction via the Lighthouse.
-
Build resilience and strength with the Crew.
This framework not only provides emotional support, but also offers practical tools for families to navigate the complexities of daily life.
